As an IB Middle Years Programme, we expect our students to participate in all 8 subject groups listed below.
Note on HS Credit Classes
Austin ISD offers some courses designated for grades 9-12 in middle school. Students who take these courses must show satisfactory completion of the prerequisite Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills as well as state and district requirements for the high school course taken. Satisfactory completion of high school courses in middle school shall be reflected on the student’s academic achievement record, and the student will be awarded state graduation credit.
Students in world languages (LOTE) courses for high school credit, may withdraw by the fifth week of the last nine weeks of the course. The final semester report card must reflect the new course to which the student transferred.
A middle school student may withdraw from a high school credit course for which a state EOC exam is required by the end of the fourth week of the third nine weeks of the course. The semester report card must reflect the new course to which the student transferred.
Austin ISD will automatically enroll each 6th grade student in an accelerated mathematics course who performed in the top 40%/60th percentile on the fifth grade STAAR. The parent or guardian may opt the student out of automatic enrollment. Parents will be notified no later than 14 days prior to the start of the school year. Students who satisfactorily complete Algebra I, and/or Geometry prior to high school will continue with higher-level mathematics courses in Grades 9 - 12.Students are expected to take 4 additional years of high school math while in high school.
The grade(s) for courses taken prior to high school will be averaged in the student’s high school grade point average (GPA) and class rank.
Art
Our Fine Arts program offers: Band, Orchestra, Visual Art, Dance, Theater, and Choir. Students involved in the arts at Murchison build skills necessary to succeed in the classroom and beyond. Our program has a longstanding history of excellence. Each of our fine art disciplines consistently receives the highest honors in district events.
Design

Physical and Health Education
Physical Education teaches sports and games such as handball, volleyball, weight training, basketball, golf, badminton, and lacrosse.
