Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social Emotional Learning

SEL is a process for helping children and adults develop fundamental skills for life effectiveness. It teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work effectively and ethically.

Social Emotional Learning lessons that address competency areas are incorporated through advisory lessons.

Matador SEL Ambassadors

MSA is a student leadership group of 7th and 8th graders that share an advisory together. Ambassadors organize an anti-bullying initiative week in the fall and a campus community service project related to SEL in the spring. In addition, these student leaders are asked to help at events like Transition (6th grade) Camp and the 5th Grade Showcase.

This advisory group is by application only. Applications for the next school year come out in April and involve written reflections, a video response, and teacher feedback.
