Language and Literacy

In Language and Literature we collaborate together through PLCs so that students can grow as lifelong readers, writers, speakers, listeners, and thinkers. Because of this, we create opportunities to read, write, speak, listen, and think every single day. We encourage students to grow out of their comfort zones by using the best practices of personalized learning in heterogeneous grouping to support and challenge all students.

The ability to read and communicate thoughts are vital skills that we will all need, no matter the job we have in life. We help students see themselves as true readers and writers.

We expose readers to all genres and encourage them to read and write in them. In turn, we hold readers accountable to writing down the books they have read. We expect our readers to read outside of class for 20 or more minutes daily.

We provide writers with authentic experiences that take pieces through the entire writing process. We hold writers accountable to consistently implement grade-appropriate grammar, mechanics, and punctuation.
